Valentine's Day And The BRITs Launch

Hi all, hope 2012 is treating you well then? It's Valentines Day as I type this, so I hope you got the card and chocs I sent..? ...oh.

Well, what a year it's been so far. Blooming freezing but thankfully I've been on the go chasing showbiz for the Capital Breakfast show and more, presenting my chart show and then some.

I began the year flying out to Berlin to interview Daniel Craig for Sony Pictures, to talk all things Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Have you seen the film yet? Daniel can be a tricky interviewee, but he was on fine form. However, I am still waiting to secure my role in new Bond film Skyfall. But I'm sure he'll call me back soon..

Next stop was the National TV Awards, at the 02. It's always one of my favourite nights and I can honestly say that standing backstage as the likes of Sir Bruce, Dr Who and Corrie cast members, Alan Carr, Eamonn Holmes, David Walliams, Jonathan Ross, Gary Barlow, Little Mix, Dermot, Ant &Dec stop by for a chat and quick sip of champers always reminds me why I love this job. I'll save the after-show party stories for the book..!

The Brits launch was another good night. Jessie J, Ed Sheeran and JLS were all genuinely excited by their nominations. I'll be on the red carpet at the ceremony, next Tuesday for Capital. I cannot wait!

What else? Well just before she delivered that amazing performance at Superbowl, Madonna stopped to chat for a second time at the UK premiere of W.E. Did anyone go see the film..? Oh and speaking of Madge, I managed to break a worldwide exclusive that LMFAO would join her on stage thanks to will.i.am, who I interviewed at Capital at 7.30 in the morning. I don't think he'd gone to bed actually! But it was cool to finally interview him face to face and talk Cheryl, The Voice and his new album. And Olly Murs invited me to chat to him at rehearsals for his UK tour, talking X Factor, his Capital dating challlenge and his new fitness regime. The man put me to shame what with his high-protein diet, daily personal trainer sessions and zero chocolate plan. Did you go see his show?

Lovely to see Alexandra Burke, Tinie, Little Mix, Wretch 32, Rizzle Kicks at Labrinths pre Brits party. That was a big night!

I also had the honour of interviewing Joey the Horse at the Royal premiere of Spielberg's Warhorse. Don't ask! And Tom Hardy, Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon told me what they wear in bed at the This Means War premiere. Yes, I ask all those tough journalistic questions. And last week at the Lafta Awards, Alan Carr talked to me about Adele and those Karl Lagerfeld comments, Rob Brydon did his Tom Jones impression and Keith Lemon ate my sarnie.

On Sunday, I worked with Jane Witherspoon and Jason Solomons at the Bafta Awards as part of the Variety.com team which streamed red carpet coverage to 157 countries. Brad, George, Penelope, Dame Judi all send their very best, by the way. But of course, Sunday will be remembered for another reason. Getting a call from LA in the early hours, from my Global boss Ashley Tabor to tell me Whitney Houston had died was a true shock to the system.

For the next 12 hours, I was back at work helping LBC and Capital with their coverage on the Sunday morning, as well as speaking to CNN and Sky News about the star and her career. I still find it surreal to talk about her in the past tense? As I type this, I'm listening to Whitney's last studio album which I absolutely love. I guess I've been a fan since I had to show-off and perform to I Wanna Dance With Somebody, at a school assembly! And I saw Whitney live in 2010 at the 02 and in 1999 on her UK tour and despite the headlines, I thought she was amazing on stage. Who else, in the past 30 years, has delivered a vocal like Whitney, especially pre-1993? Google her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner or her Grammys performance of One Moment in Time to see what I mean. Oh and her 1999 Brits performance of It's Not Right was another highlight for me. It's a tragic loss and so, so sad. To lose Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse and now Whitney in such a small space of time is just unbelievable. RIP Whitney and thanks for the memories.

Right, I'm off to the Princes Trust Valentines Ball. Stay warm and speak soon...
