Tegan And Sara "We Want To Collaborate With Ed Sheeran"

Canadian stars Tegan and Sara are having a rather amazing week.

The Quin sisters celebrated the UK release of their acclaimed new album Heartthrob in the same week that the album charted at No.3 on the USA Billboard Hot 200 Album Chart.

200 lucky fans and music industry VIPs watched the band perform tracks from their 7th studio album, at Bloomsbury Bowling in London's Tavistock Square, last night ( Wednesday) and I can confirm that Tegan and Sara are officially a brilliant live act..

Speaking to me backstage, Tegan told me "It was really fun. We were actually asked a more of a stripped down acoustic thing, so we actually only met the drummer and the bass player just four hours ago..but I thought the acoustic versions went really well. We're professionals! But actually joking aside, to be able to fly in and have really awesome musicians show up and play as well as they did is so cool.."

Tegan and Sara have been coming to the UK for the past ten years but with the release of new album Heartthob creating what the industry calls "a buzz over here" 2013 is looking like it's going to be a good for the Canadian twins. "You know we always used to think that the UK was way crazier than anywhere else we would go, like coming from Canada things are little more chilled and I remember when we first came here the kids used to rock our tourbus. Like thirty or forty five foot tall kids rocking the bus screaming 'Tegan and Sara you're fit!" ..that's we come here so often. You're a very enthusiastic bunch too."

And naturally, I had to ask the twins and gay icons about their love for British music? Tegan confessed "Everytime we come here everybody asks us that question. We feel the UK has such an incredible history. As a Canadian artist you want to have success outside of Canada but I feel that the UK has this incredible fifty year history. I mean right now Ed Sheeran is burning up the charts in America and it's incredible. Sara and I love him ,we were like he's going to be a huge star and we're like Ed give us some length. We're jealous that he gets to rock up on stage wearing casuals like a baggy shirt and cargo pants! Maybe he could give us some style advice…he's very cute, I would give a hug, he's cute..Call us Ed!"

And after he experienced several negative press stories, both Tegan and Sara defended fellow Canadian star Justin Bieber; "Both of his records are great, especially his debut record. I'm not just saying this because I'm a Canadian but we really think he's a talent. He's young..but lighten up UK, give him a break.!"

The Tegan and Sara's brilliant new album is out in the UK on February 11th. Look out for future single I Was A Fool and more live dates in June.
