Rupert And Ronan Help Postman Pat Become Pop Idol Pat

The new Postman Pat movie is finally on the big screen this weekend.

Postman Pat: The Movie stars Stephen Mangan ( ‘Episodes’, ‘Green Wing’) as Postman Pat, Jim Broadbent (Iris, Moulin Rouge!), Rupert Grint, David Tennant and Ronan Keating. Yep, in this film the nation's favourite Postie can sing!

The film finds Pat, everyone’s favourite postman, coming face-to-face with the temptations of money, status and a shiny new suit when he enters a national TV talent show competition that threatens to tear him away from his hometown of Greendale and his family and friends. What happens when kindness meets selfishness? When local fame meets global notoriety? A nice cup of tea is kicked aside by a frappacappucino? Pat is set to find out as he falls for the age-old temptation of the grass being greener…

Harry Potter star and Rupert Grint told me "he was such an important character in my childhood. He was an achievable hero..I've always been a PatMan! I said yes before I read the script, it was a no-brainer and I'm really proud to be part of it. But it's a very different Pat for a whole new generation.."

And Rupert fans also get the chance to hear Rupert showcase his considerably decent vocal ability. "I was quite surprised how polished it sounded but they've obviously done something to make it listenable" But you have a great voice..? "I do actually..!"

Rupert also admitted to me that he prefers to avoid the Harry Potter films when they're repeated on television. " It's very weird when I see myself but good memories. Dan, Emma and I will always share a special bond…we shared a very unique experience together and we'll always have that. It was special but it's also good to move on to new projects."

And speaking to me at the recent Gabrielle's Gala charity night, which raises money for cancer charities, in London, Ronan Keating told me "we loved the movie. Stephen is so good as Pat. To be honest I've introduced my kids to Postman Pat so it's great to introduce him to kids again.."

Ronan also revealed to me that he's working on a new Boyzone album "it'll be a different thing for Boyzone altogether. I can't say too much just yet.." And the band play several dates across the UK this Summer.
