Joe McElderry Talks 'Abide' With Me "It's An Emotional Song For Such A Good Cause"

A new charity single featuring the Royal Mail Choir performing with Joe McElderry gets released tomorrow (Sunday).

Abide With Me is being sold in aid of Prostate Cancer UK, a disease which affects 1 in 8 men in the UK today.

Speaking to me at the Royal Mail in central London, Joe told me "it's quite an epic production of the song and I hope everyone enjoys it. The orchestra on it is just beautiful and it's just one of those songs and melodies which sends goosebumps down your spine. I mean I get goosebumps no matter who sings it. It's one of those hymns that everyone can relate to, whether it's at sporting events or even the Olympics last year so I think the cause and charity needs one of those songs that lifts people and creates a bit of a buzz."

And in a week where the media focus has been on a certain song from The Wizard Of Oz, Joe was pleased to clarify that his release is all about positivity. "I've heard about that campaign and I'm not a fan of that..so hopefully people will download this song and support the cause."

Joe also told me about his plans for a new solo album, Summer tour plans, plans for a a four day charity bike ride and his continuing ambition to sing with Beyonce!

Speaking to me about his recent studio work, Joe told me "the new material is very different to what I've done before. There are a few dance, clubby tracks so hopefully we'll have one out in the Summer, we'll see."

As ever, it was great to catch up with Joe. New single "Abide With Me" with the Royal Mail Choir is out Sunday April 14th.
