Alexandra Burke Working On New 'Lady Sings The Blues' Musical

Alexandra Burke has exclusively confirmed to me that she's working on a stage musical adaptation of 'Lady Sings The Blues'.

Speaking to me at The Bodyguard Musical, on the first anniversary of Whitney Houston's death , Alexandra revealed that she's currently recording her third studio album whist working on a musical adaptation of the 1970s's movie, based on the life of jazz singer Billie Holiday. The 1972 film secured five Academy award nominations and starred Diana Ross.

Alexandra told me "I'm actually in the process right now of trying to work out a show based on my favourite movie of all time, which is Lady Sings in the Blues.. the Billie Holiday story, a tragic story but a very, very inspiring one. So hopefully we're going to have a show based on that, very very soon. I mean that's the inspiration behind the album right now, so fingers crossed that goes according to plan.."

The multi-platinum selling singer also talked to me about her appearance on ITV1's "From the Heart" which aired Wednesday, 13th February.

"The show is all about organ donation and awareness for people to sign up. My Mum and I recently gave our first ever interview together and I also sang with Jools Holland's Band which was just incredible for me as I'm a huge fan of Jools, so everyone tune in as it's going to be very special. As some people may know, my Mum is currently in need of a kidney and anything I can do in terms of encouraging people to register on the organ donor list, then that's what I'm going to do regardless of my Mum's illness as it's a very important subject to talk about and preach about. Hopefully those people who watch the show will be touched."

And for all you Beasties out there, I naturally had to ask how the album recording is going? "It's going really, really well and I've actually built a studio in my house so that’s really interesting and although it's nice working from home, it's hard as I'm literally pushing myself to the limit and recording two songs a day."

The one downside to recording, non-stop at home? Valentines Day of course. Fluttering those amazing eyelashes, Alexandra confessed "I've never really celebrated Valentines Day as I'm always working and what I'd hope for is at least some flowers and a rose..! But I'm single right now and I will be working this Valentines Day!"

Oh and here's a lot more that I'm unable to print here at this time but trust me, Alexandra's new album is shaping up to be something special.
